24 Hours in Negril

By Jonique Gaynor

Once you immerse yourself in the laid-back vibe of this coastal town you may never want to leave.

9 a.m. Traditional Breakfast
Start the day with a traditional Jamaican breakfast at Sweet Spice Restaurant, a local favourite serving up authentic Jamaican dishes. Try the ackee and saltfish — Jamaica’s national dish — or any of the other tasty dishes on offer.

10:30 a.m. Souvenir Shopping
After fueling up, pop over to the Time Square Shopping Mall for some mid-morning duty-free shopping and visit the craft market by the beach near the town centre for some authentic arts and crafts.

12 p.m. Soak up Some Rays
Head over to Margaritaville for an afternoon of fun and frolicking. Lounge on the beach, groove to the hottest tunes, sip on margaritas or an ice-cold Red Stripe beer, and soak up the sun on Negril’s famous Seven Mile Beach. With a tempting variety of options, including local and international favourites, lunch at Margaritaville is a great option. Plus, who doesn’t like lunch with a view?

4 p.m. Scenic Thrills
No trip to Negril is complete without watching the famous Negril sunset from Rick’s Café. The sunset is not the only sight to behold there, however, as this cliff-side spot is equally famous for its daring divers who plunge into the deep blue waters from astonishing heights. If you’re up for the thrill, why not take a jump as well?

7 p.m. Dinner and Dancing
After a day of relaxation, shopping and adventure, head to Bongos Restaurant or Pushcart Restaurant & Rum Bar for a relaxing and enjoyable dinner before rounding out the day with some partying at The Jungle nightclub or live entertainment at Alfred’s Ocean Palace.
